Electromuscular stimulation (Electrostim)
Electromuscular stimulation, or e-stim or electrostim, is an auxiliary form of physical therapy that is often used to rekindle muscle contractility. Enhancing muscle contraction can help you control your pain, become stronger, increase your body function, retrain your possible loss of movement, and/or control inflammation.
Contrary to popular belief, electromuscular stimulator therapy or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is not the only type. The EMS machine provides a pain relief strategy that you can use at home or on the go, while the electronic stimulation provided in the orthopedic physiotherapy setting stimulates muscle contraction, which intensifies muscles and promotes blood circulation.
Electrical stimulation is also used in cases of spinal cord injury and other neuromuscular diseases.
